New Year Carnival 2009 will be held from 19 until 23 January 2009, at
Lintasan Deasoka, Gaya Street. This event is jointly organized by KK
City Hall and Kota Kinabalu State Constituency Assemblyman Office. The
Carnival will be launched by the Chief Minister of Sabah, The Right
Honorable Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman on 19 January 2009.
There are many interesting stage perfomances lined up for the
five-night event. There will be 24 seasons drums performance, the
popular lion dance, Chinese Traditional Dance and fireworks display.
On the second day of the Carnival, 20th January 2009,
a special ceremony with the golden citizens and disabled children will
be officiated by the wife of Chief Minister of Sabah, The Honorable
Datin Seri Panglima Hajah Faridah Haji Tussin.
On 21st and 22nd January 2009, audience will be
entertained by stage perfomances by local schools in Kota Kinabalu City
and a singing competition. On the last day of the event, 23rd January 2009,
the Carnival will be concluded by The Honorable Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai,
Minister of Human Resource Development and Information Technology. The
grand highlight of the closing ceremony is the final singing
competition and a fireworks display.
Stalls selling Chinese New Year goodies will also be set up along
the Gaya Street in conjunction with the five-night event too. For more
